an afternoon at kuala selangor nature park

Kuala Selangor is actually halfway to my hometown, so if posibble, I'll try to drop by for birding. So on May 10 on the way back, stop by at noon. I decide to take the pangolin trail and plan to double back when reached the bridge.

just after entering the trail, heard this bird call, quite similar to the common Yellow-vented Bulbul.

Merbah Belukar
Olive-winged Bulbul
Pycnonotus plumosus

more, the vent(the part below the tail) is a dull yellow colour, a quick look almost dismiss it as the common bulbul.

I like to identify it with the streaks at its cheek. The Olive green patch at the wings is not easily seen like in this pic taken at Bkt Cherakah

on the way back, the light is better with the sun behind my back. as i always shoot without flash.

I found this Strip-tit Babbler, very skittish bird.. including this I encounter it 3 times without a good photo. Oh well, try again.

Rimba Berjalur
Striped-Tit Babbler
Macronous gularis

another skittish bird I got is the Ashy Tailorbird, not a good photo..but it show its activeness..

a bit dark... only natural light.

In search of the purple swamphen

On 15th of November, I 've decided to check out the Paya Indah Wetlands in Dengkil. There are numerous times that I saw the signboards, but didnt actually find the entrance. Well this day I must go and find it! (maybe find the swamphen there..)

The route to go there is simply easy.. go to Dengkil, from Shah Alam, I use the LDP and went straight to Putrajaya, bypass all the exits to Putrajaya and at almost the end there are a traffic light with the Dengkil Sign board. Turn right to dengkil. Within 2 km you'll reach Dengkil town. At the traffic light turn left.(The sign board isnt so clear, you'll tend to drive straight) Drive another 5km, youll pass by Pusat Serenti Dengkil on the left, a little further ahead you'll find a T juction to Paya Indah. The sign boards are quite clear. Admittance is free and you can drive around in your car just like safari.

On the way in spotted a bird on a branch.. just me, shoot first ask later..
Haha! A lifer

Went in, at the lake where they kept the ducks and goose, saw an egret..

suddenly i found out my lens is quite loose, the nikon to canon eos adapter got some loose screw. Have to do some emergency repairs. luckily I brought my multifuction tool with me. With the long pointed knife I can tighten the very small screws..lucky there.. a blue-tailed beeeater perched quite near while doing this.. Oh well!

About the Purple Swamphen, the first time I saw it is at Putrajaya Wetlands. then at a swampy riverside at Puchong(I wish they didnt develop houses so near river). I felt I must get a clear picture of this beautiful bird.

So did I get it at Paya Indah?

just a so and so pic...

Life isnt fair

Some of us feel that life is'nt fair. On the chronic side they feel the world is against them, maybe its their career, family, friends etc.

The good news is..Well! life are not fair but balanced.

In the avian world, there is a phenomenon called brood parasite. 40% of the cuckoo family practices brood parasitism but of all the bird species only 1% does it. So in other word its balanced... isnt it?

Now the unfairness side..

Just look at the pic above, the plaintive cuckoo has picked the ashy tailorbird as its host. Meaning, the cuckoo has becomes the tailorbird foster child. Just imagine taking care of a child as big as an ox. Get the picture!.. isnt fair is it..

just for facts

so live life as is,
if u think life is hard, others live harder
if u think life is good, others live better..
just live the best as we can achive..
