Oriole hunting lesson.

This black-naped oriole have been fully grown and hunting on its own.



hunting is hard, have to search carefully.. Notice that the beak is black not pink as the adult, there are also small black dots at the breast.

seems like a bug or roach..

lunch have to be prepared first!
it banged the bug against the branch to remove the unwanted parts.

Looks about ready..



oh! still have the antenna


it fly away to another tree and continue banging its prey



the cleaning up after eating.
it brushes its beak against a branch.

Guard duty!

I still visit the baya weaver nest from time to time. It seem that it is easier to take the photo of the male bird. There seems one male always around at the colony which comprised of about 8-10 nest in various stages.

The trick is to spot it..
or it spotting me




maybe in the colony, it is a defense agains predator.

if the guard is around. It will strike and chase away the oriole. I seen it once(no pic, sorry)



here in this blurry pic(almost dark and quite far away), in absense of the guardian, an oriole managed to land on a nest..

fortunately it is an unfinished nest, otherwise would have taken a chick or egg.

Dedap merah dengan burung

Kalau nampak burung kelicap menghisap madu dari bunga Dedap Merah ni memang tak heran lah..

an olive-backed sunbird female sucking nectar from erythrina glauca flower

eh burung tiung jawa pun suka juga

a javan myna also have a liking for this flower

burung dendang selayang pun nyebuk nak madu.

kalau saya ada taman mesti saya dah tanam pokok ni.

mana dia ye.. pandang atas pucuk pokok2 tak nampak pun.

pandang pokok sekeliling nampak lak sarang, tenung betul-betul baru nampak bende bergerak.

uih! ade anak dia, mulut je buka, suara tak keluar..

lama gak aku tunggu, ade gak org lalu lalang. aku buat tak tau je..

beberapa ekor kerengge dtg gigit perut aku.. abih bau kerengge tangan ni..cabut kerengge tu.. sakit gak, cam kena sunat. hehehe!

tiba nampak ibunya hinggap kat pokok sebelah.. bila sunyi je, baru dia terbang ke pokok yg ada sarang dia. tapi kat dahan lain.



bila line clear dia melompat ke dari dahan ke dahan sampai ke sarang dia. nampak cam bawak belalang je warna hijau.




haa.. sekor anak dia dah makan, sekor lagi masih tunggu.. uuwooow - uuuwooow,
oh! pasangan dia dah sampai..

hmm harap2 besarlah sampai dewasa. cantik burung dendang selayang (kunyit besar) ni, besar merpati.

Death of an oriole

Upon looking at the branches, I notice a Black-naped Oriole. It's mouth open..



This is about 15-20 feet on top of a tree, I notice it is not moving. The position on the branch is like leaning on the branch. Is it sick or dead?



Then another oriole perched beside it.. It look around for a while silently, then flew away as if saying goodbye to a comrade. This is when I felt the oriole was truly dead.

Kunyit dah besar dah!

Hari tu, mak aku tidur kat rumah aku kat shah alam, tingkat 5.. so pepagi nampak dia kat balkoni...Zizi, tak payah pergi jejauh..kat sini pun boleh tengok burung" betullah cakap dia, dari beranda rumah pun boleh bird watching gak.. kalau lepas subuh lepak kat beranda berjam-jam pun boleh... Ini antara burung yang aku tangkap dari beranda rumah aku..

Ini pulak rupa burung ini masa sebelum dewasa (juvenile)

paruhnya hitam tidak merah jambu, di dadanya ada bintik-bintik hitam, dan topeng mata tidak hitam.
